At its 37th edition, 2023 JCI Mauritius, The Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) Nomination officially opens on 13 April 2023. JCI Beau Bassin / Rose Hill and JCI Mauritius urge the young leaders to preserve their beliefs and to continue to inspire others. Each year, Junior Chamber International (JCI) recognizes ten exceptional young individuals under the age of 40. These people exhibit the JCI Mission’s ethos and have made outstanding contributions to community service, business and entrepreneurship, personal growth, and intercultural understanding.
These young leaders provide positive and creative solutions on a local and global scale via service, ingenuity, tenacity, or innovative thought. The top 10 honourees are then picked from among all the nominees by an international team of judges, regardless of the category submitted. Past winners have included athletes, those who have made numerous contributions to society, and people who have overcome obstacles. The goal of this program, which follows JCI’s mission, is to empower young people to effect good change and to instil in them the notion that our nation’s kids are its greatest asset.
JCI hopes to inspire others via the stories of these young, fearless, and tenacious people by sharing their experiences through this initiative. JCI has awarded during the past three decades to both well-known individuals like John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, and Jackie Chan as well as less well-known individuals who made an influence in their own unique way. Numerous individuals who have influenced our culture, such Vedant Dharam, Dalilah Kalah and Eddy Yeung, have received our honour in the past. Last year, Yeeshtdevisingh Hosanee won the 2022 JCI Mauritius Outstanding Young Person Award in the category of personal improvement and/or accomplishment. Her passion for Information Technology started since she was 15 years old. She is today a professional in information technology, teaches part-time for local universities, mentors primary school students in programming, and even volunteered to teach programming to elementary school students. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in information technology. Additionally, she has published research articles and open source projects that have been well appreciated in Mauritius and Algeria.
Following her victory in the 2019 MT180 international competition, she is now recognized internationally by the Réseau de l’Agence universitaire de la francophonie. Not only is she a passionate of Information Technology, but she also keeps an eye on issues that concern the Mauritian population. Politics, in her opinion, “is like sitting quietly and watching horse races every Saturday at Champ-de-Mars, a culture built over many years and which now has become a passion”. She practiced gymnastics from 2014 to 2021 and competed in many regional tournaments held by the Mauritian Gymnastics Federation. She was awarded the third-place in a number of them.
JCI invites nominations for any of the ten categories below from young Mauritius citizens between the ages of 18 and 40:
