World Arabic language Day at ICC

In order to mark the World Arabic Language Day, for the first time in the history of Mauritius, the Islamic Cultural Centre organised an Arabic week which started with an expose on Arabic literature. In the same context the ICC has organised a three day workshop from 12 to 14 December in which educators from primary and secondary schools have participated.

The workshop was organised with the technical support of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz international Centre for Arabic Language which has delegated professor Dr Mahmud Al Mahmud as main resource person. The workshop was officially opened by Showkutally Soodhun who placed the importance of this workshop in the context of strengthening the relations between Mauritius and Saudi Arabia. He announced that he would shortly pursue talks with Saudi authorities for the establishment of an Arabic University in Mauritius that would serve as a regional hub for the learning of Arabic Language for countries in Africa and Indian Ocean.

Showkutally Soodhun  also expressed his determination to bring all the local stakeholders of Arabic Language under the same umbrella of Arabic Speaking Union. He also expressed his satisfaction that, with the advent of Saudi Arabian airlines, there have been a tremendous increase in the arrival of Arab tourist . The Arabic week Will conclude on Saturday 15 December by a prize award ceremony where the winners of  various competitions in Arabic Language (dictation, essay-writing, debate, anasheed, speech, sketches) Will be awarded certificates and gifts.
